Your course paper is a choice between the TEACCH model and ABA model of instruction for Autistic children.
A primary source of strain between school districts and parents comes when choosing between the two leading ways of teaching children with ASD. They are:
Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication-Handicapped Children (TEACCH) versus Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA).
THIS WEEKS ASSIGNMENT IS TO CREATE AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY TO USE WHEN WRITING YOUR COURSE PAPER
You must present 3 sources following the annotated bibliography example and format provided. These will be used in week 7 to write your paper.
Annotated Bibliography
The first step in the scholarly writing process is to complete an exhaustive review of the literature related to your topic. As you begin yourreview of empirical articles, review articles, and other scholarly materials related to your topic, creating an annotated bibliography will provide you with asummary of each source that will help to organize and to streamline the process of writing the literature review in the near future.
Your annotated bibliography should include each source that may be included in your literature review. If you review a source and are not sure if you will include it in your literature review or not, you should still include it in your annotated bibliography. The purpose is to have a snapshot of each source that may be included in your literature review together in one document.
An annotated bibliography includes a reference for each source, in perfect APA style, along with a summary (the annotation) of the main points. The summary can be a paragraph or two. Your sources should be listed in alphabetical order by first author, in APA style. The vast majority of your sources should be empirical articles; the information that needs to be summarized includes the following:
- Sample Population (N, basic demographics, culture [if relevant], clinical or non-clinical [if relevant], sex)
- Research question
- Variables
- Methodology
- Measures
- Results
- Relevance to current research
Here is an example of a couple of hypothetical entries in an annotated bibliography:
Johnson, Q., & Mason, R. (2016). Anxiety coping strategies of dissertation students. Journal of Dissertation Stress, 9(11), 122-129.
Dissertation students in Southeastern US (48 male, 57 female)were assessed for anxiety level and coping to determine if certain coping strategies were associated with lower levels of anxiety. Participants completed the BAI and COPE during their dissertation courses at one month, six months, and 12 months. Results showed that two coping strategies (planning and use of emotional social support) were significantly correlated with lower levels of anxiety. Results are relevant to coping strategies being assessed in current research.
Xenon, Z., Argon, P., & Rayon, W. (2014). Coping with sexual assault: An examination in Middle Eastern culture. Journal of Faraway Studies, 4(5), 14-26.
Twenty-four women who were victims of sexual assault in three Middle Eastern countries were interviewed to examinecoping strategies. Male interviewers asked five open-ended questions. Results indicated that the majority of participants felt shame and concealed the incident from family due to fear of reprisal. Limitations: qualitative research, population is not similar, all female-population. May not be relevant to current research.
