Read: Don Marquis - Why Abortion Is Immoral (Abridged)
In section I of his article, Marquis suggests that the typical pro-choice arguments use principles concerning killing that "are too narrow to be acceptable," while the typical anti-abortionist arguments use principles concerning killing that "are too broad to be acceptable." In section II of his paper (see the first paragraph of page 2), Marquis defends his own principle - which he thinks is more plausible than the others - and applies it to abortion. In the remaining sections of the paper, Marquis defends his argument against objections.
In section II of his paper, Marquis explains his principle explaining when and why killing is wrong. We can call this the Future of Value Principle: killing is prima facie wrong if it deprives a being of a future of value. At the beginning of section II, Marquis explains what he means by a future of value (or, as he sometimes calls it, a "future like ours")
Explain clearly, precisely, and in your words
1. What Marquis means when he talks about a future of value.
2. Illustrate using two examples: an example of a living thing that does have a future of value and a living thing that does not have a future of value.
