Taking off from an aircraft carrier is a non-trivial operation. Basically, there's not enough room for the jet to taxi normally and thus an additional means of getting the jet up to take off speed is needed. What's commonly used is a steam-driven catapult. Large pistons move within their cylinders, driven by steam pressure at one end, and tow the jet forward.

Assume that the jet is brought from a stationary state to 159 mph in 2.15 seconds and that the acceleration was constant.

How many feet of deck does this imply must be in front of the jet? Calculate your answer to 1 decimal place.
