Question 1: Informal observations: You can do this by talking to your peers and friends, go on social media, or watching a TV show/movie.

1b. Practical problems: Take some time to reflect on practical problems that affect you, your community, or society at large. Perhaps look at recent news articles in the Western Gazette, your Twitter feed, or reflect on recent social events, debates, or issues. Briefly describe TWO practical problems that you believe are important and explain why

1c. Previous research: Later in the course you'll be asked to search for and read empirical articles in order to write your literature review (Fall term paper). You may not be familiar with empirical articles yet, and that's ok! Part of conducting research is being familiar with other research that is already out there. Take some time to skim the web for recently published empirical research. Try browsing through Psychology News on ScienceDaily, Psychology Today, or entering search terms into Google scholar. Briefly describe ONE past study that you found interesting and explain why.NOTE: you do not have to read the entire original article, just get a sense for what the study was about by reading a summary or story ABOUT it, or the abstract of the article. Explain what you think is interesting or thought-provoking about the past research you found.

Question 2. Pick TWO ideas from Question 1 that most interested you and write a research question for each idea. Note: These research questions do not necessarily have to be your final idea for the fall term paper, BUT it will be beneficial to choose a topic/research question sooner rather than later.
