Taiwan's healthcare is very similar to the other Asian countries we've looked at so far. I was fascinated at their approach to building their own healthcare system. They didn't want to copy anyone else's and when looking at other country's healthcare systems they really only dived into the positives. I liked how it was mentioned why would they want to adopt another country's system and fail like them? Instead look at what's working for them and see how they can incorporate it in theirs to then make it better. Just as Japan, they have small to no waiting times and no gatekeepers. Their goal was to get universal coverage by having everyone enroll in their national insurance system and pay monthly to finance this. The negative side to this just like Japan is they don't charge enough to pay for everything for everyone. It got to the point that the government was borrowing money from banks to pay their providers to continue this low cost universal healthcare. The only part of their healthcare system I would love to see in ours is their smart card. Every resident must carry their card to every healthcare related appointment.
