TAEDES401 Design and develop learning programs - TAFE NSW
Part 1: Design a learning/training program
Trainers and assessors working in Registered Training Organisations are required to follow organisational quality assurance policies and procedures. The following tasks outline how this can be achieved when designing and developing learning programs.
By successfully completing these tasks you will demonstrate you are able to design learning/training programs according to organisational quality assurance policies and procedures.
Task 1: Identify the parameters of the learning program
To identify the parameters of the learning program you will need to analysethe client's training requirementsand select an appropriate unit of competency to meet their needs. Complete the following table by:
a. Gather information on a training need from an organisation related to your industry experience or use the case study in Appendix 1.
b. Access www.training.gov.au for the training package information
c. One unit of competency or one accredited course module is required.
Task 2: Determine the LLN skills required for the training
Analyse the training specifications by reading through the unit of competency and identifying what the learner will need to read, write, orally communicate and the mathematical skills they will require. This process will assist in designing and developing your delivery plan.
Task 3:Identify characteristics of the learners that may have an impact on the design of the program
Identify and list the learners who will be participating in the training in the table below. Describe their characteristics and reasonable adjustments that may be required to allow for fair and equal delivery of training and assessment.
Task 4: Contextualise for the client
Considering advice from the training package/course developer and the client, give at least one example of how you would contextualise the delivery of your program.
Task 5: Develop a delivery plan
Now you have identified your unit of competency or accredited course it is time to analyse how you will deliver the program.
a. Read through the unit of competency or accredited course curriculum.
b. Break the content of the unit into manageable segments over the number of sessions to be delivered, allocate timeframes and sequence the segments into a logical order.
c. Complete the tables below. Note this is not a detailed session plan - it is a broad outline demonstrating where the components of the unit of competency are being covered and giving an indication of how they will be delivered.
d. Include appropriate delivery methods suitable for the unit of competency and context. Useplain English, format and style suited to the audience.
e. Complete the assessment strategy table by ticking which method/s you would use to assess each element in each unit of competency. You may pick more than one method.
f. Ensure total sessions and total training hours match Task 1.
Task 6: Evaluate existing resources for relevance and quality
Find two existing resources that you could use as part of your learning program ensuring they meet the organisation quality and assurance requirements. In the table below describe the resources and comment on their relevance and quality.
Task 7:Analyse risk
Use the table providedto undertake a Work Health and Safety (WHS) risk analysis for the learning program. Provide at least two alternate controls or risk minimisation strategies for each identified risk.
Task 8: Confirm and review the learning program
You and another TAE4016 student or approved candidate will complete a review of your learning program, in particular, the learning plan you developed in task 5 and the candidate will be required to provide feedback.
Your assessor will observe you and the candidate completing this task and complete the Assessor observation checklist - Review of the learning program. Before completing this task review the checklist so you are aware of what will be required of you and discuss with your assessor whether the observation will be completed live or whether you need to submit a recording. Make the necessary arrangements. If you are:
• attending classes, this session may be delivered during class time
• completing the course fully online, you will be required to upload a video recording of this review session. Use the Video and Audio Upload Instructions (Appendix 2) to assist you with this process.
a) Start the review by completing table 8 below, then
b) Discuss the items listed in table 9 and make notes about the feedback provided by your candidate.
Task 9: Implement recommendations
Implement the feedback provided to you in the review of the learning program, task 8 bymodifying the delivery plan.
• Use a different colour text to indicate your modifications to the delivery plan (Task 5).
• Complete table 10 in task 5 the delivery plan to indicate:
o The reviewer
o The date the review was completed
o The changes implemented in the delivery plan.
