Project Action Plan
Learning Outcome 1: Critically evaluate a problem within the software engineering body of knowledge, including appraising established theories and recent industry developments
Learning Outcome 2: Devise a structured enquiry-based project relevant to professional practice with the use of appropriate principles and methods and with a suitable level of personal autonomy and accountability
Learning Outcome 3: Communicate effectively in ways appropriate to the discipline, client, audience and purpose
Learning Outcome 4: Apply a systematic process of problem solving to identify and assess a real-world need and propose an appropriate solution to the problem
Learning Outcome 5: Critically reflect on personal and professional experiences to engage in independent development beyond formal education for lifelong learning.
Task Summary
Building on the work you have already undertaken for Assessment 1, you are required to complete an Action Plan for your software engineering-based project proposal. In Assessment 2, you will design and develop an Action Plan of 4,000 words (+/-10%) and (as the document originator and controller) apply the subject methodologies (Modules 1-9) and any industry practice insights as part of your response.
The aim is to develop an Action Plan that:
• updates your project proposal (Assessment 1); and
• adopts an informed approach for the implementation of your project proposal using the methodologies outlined in Modules 1-9. It is expected that continuous improvement initiatives will be central to your Action Plan. Your course facilitator will assist you by providing examples as to what kinds of continuous improvement initiatives might be of relevance to your Action Plan.
Please refer to the Task Instructions (below) for details on how to complete this task.
Task Instructions
To complete this assessment, you need to research, describe and answer the following questions and statements:
1. Project plan update: Has your project proposal changed from its original intention as outlined in Assessment 1. If so, in what ways has it changed? If not, justify the reasons why it has not changed (e.g., the effective use of project planning tools).
2. Review Assessment 1 and outline (and justify) the key features that are relevant to your project.
3. Develop and create an informed Action Plan implementation strategy with initiatives. Using relevant software engineering processes, supported and managed by identified business models outlined in Modules 7, 8 and 9, produce a report that includes (at a minimum):
• A management strategy for implementing the project. Include: the scope definition, the resource allocation, the milestones, a source control outline, a work breakdown structure, a control and monitor process and a risk management overview;
• A software engineering process relevant to your industry; and
• Business models, such as lifecycle models, and a time-value (present value) and break-even analysis.
Structure
Use the following guide to structure your project proposal, planning and implementation report:
1. Executive Summary
2. Introduction-Background Information
Make additions to the description of the organisation and the nature of the industry in which it operates-this description should be aligned with your professional interests.
3. Brief Outline of the Organisation's Goals and Objectives (SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely)
4. Project Plan Update: Review the planning initiatives-requirements elicitation and project planning tools.
5. A Comprehensive Review
Justify and provide a comprehensive review of the key features included in Assessment 1
6. Action Plan Implementation Strategy and Initiatives
Provide an informed approach to implement your project using the resource materials from Modules 7, 8 and 9 (include the features outlined above).
7. Recommendations
8. Conclusion
9. Reference List
10. Appendices
Contribution Statement
You also need to write a brief contribution statement of 150 words (+/-10%) outlining your individual efforts in the group project. This short statement must include:
- An overview of your tasks within the context of the group work;
- A statement detailing the specific ideas you contributed in relation to the issues considered; and
- A description of the role/s you played in helping put together this assessment task.
Referencing
It is essential that you use appropriate APA style for citing and referencing research.
