James Smith is a 35-year-old male who presents to the clinic with a painful, red, swollen lesion on his anterior right thigh. He reports the lesion appeared about 5 days ago and has progressively worsened. He also complains of low-grade fever (99-100 orally) and malaise for the past 2 days. He describes the lesion as red, swollen, painful, and warm to touch. He states that yesterday the lesion "started having pus come out of it". He reports that he has never had a similar problem. He works outdoors as a construction worker. He denies any trauma to the area and states he is not aware of any insect bites.
