Question

Explain in simpler terms"Sustained supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). This is usually caused by an AV nodal reentrant circuit. Heart rate is increased to 150 to 250 beats per minute. SVT often responds to interventions that increase vagal tone, such as carotid sinus massage or the Valsalva maneuver. If these are ineffective, an intravenous β blocker or CCB can be tried. With these drugs, ventricular rate will be slowed even if the dysrhythmia persists. When the dysrhythmia has been controlled, β blockers and/or CCBs can be taken orally to prevent recurrence. As a last resort, amiodarone can be used for prevention.
