Consider these suspected causes of the patient's meningitis: Neisseria meningitidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Escherichia coli. The CSF sample was Gram-stained and simultaneously plated onto three different types of growth media: chocolate agar, blood agar, and Hektoen agar. The following results were obtained: rods that were Gram-negative and positive for growth on all three types of growth media. Which organism(s) could be causing the meningitis?
