Case Scenario: You are the Infection Prevention and Control nurse at the Sentinel City Healthcare System Center located the ACER Tech region in Sentinel City. Members of the Interfaith Church of Sentinel City are arriving at your facility exhibiting symptoms of severe diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. You have learned that the Interfaith Church hosted a picnic on the church premises in Industrial Heights the day before where various food items were consumed. Initial assessment of the individuals revealed they all ate a common food item - potato salad containing eggs. The 45 individuals report that their symptoms began 12 hours after eating the salad. Demographics for those reporting to the facility show that 20 people are 60 years and older, 10 are in the age range of 25 to 50 years, and 15 are children between 4 and 12 years of age. You suspect an outbreak strain of Salmonella, but no diagnostic tests have been conducted yet to confirm. Most of the individuals live in the Industrial Heights community.
