Question: A patient was hospitalized for a surgical procedure requiring general anesthesia. After the surgery, it was noted that there were few to no bowel sounds (GI motility was decreased) and her bladder was not emptying as it should. What autonomic drug do you predict that the physician will prescribe at this point and why would this be a good choice?

What side effects/adverse effects would you be on the lookout for?

The nurse notices on the patient chart that she is an asthmatic. This prompts him to contact the MD on duty. Why was the nurse concerned??
