A national brand of paints is evaluating its production and supply chain strategy to improve inventory turns, customer service levels, and overall profitability. They produce paints at relatively small number of standard colors that customers purchase off the shelf at local hardware stores and big box home improvement stores. The paints are produced at company owned facilities located in several regions around the country. The paints are used for both interior and exterior applications for which they only know what is demanded based on the orders placed by the central warehouses for the respective retail chains they serve. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of their current production and distribution model followed by a recommended redesign production and distribution model along with the potential advantages and disadvantages of the new model.
