Final Simulation Project - A small job shop specializes in the production of bronze and brass art works. The shop has two machines for bronze work but only one machine for brass work. Although each job is unique. Jobs fall into three major categories. Class I jobs require work only on the bronzing machine. Class II jobs require work only on the brass machine. Class III work requires processing on both types of machines. Many jobs coming into the shop are for one-of-a-kind pieces. However, a major customer is an art wholesaler, who brings in work in batch sizes of 12, 144, and 576 pieces each. Historical data reveal the following probabilities for the type of job and batch size:

Due dates, that is, the time customers would like the job completed, follow a uniform distribution between 0 and 100 days after arrival to the shop. The firm currently schedules jobs on a first-infirst-out policy (FIFO). However, about 50 percent of their jobs are late. A flowchart of the job shop process is shown in Figure1. The processing time for each unit is normally distributed with a mean of 0.02 day and a standard deviation of 0.01 day (with a check assuring that duration is at least 0.008 day). The duration for the entire job is then obtained by multi-plying this unit time by the batch size. Each of the three systems is simulated by sorting the data reflecting the scheduling rule. For the FIFO rule, the jobs are processed in the order generated. For the SPT rule, jobs are processed in order of duration, with shortest jobs first. For the due-date (DD) rule, jobs are processed in order of simulated due date. The problem involves generation of 100 jobs, with different routing, batch sizes, due dates, and unit production rates. The maximum due date is 800, with larger due dates having higher priorities. Thus, EDD_Priority = 800 - Due date, and SPT_Priority = (999 - Process_time)/10.
The firm wants to know if using either a policy of doing jobs in order of due date or a shortest-processing-time-first (SPT) policy will improve on-time performance and how it compares to the FIFO policy?
The results should be listed using three tables based on policy being studies with the content of the following information collected:
