Assignment - Incarnation Response

Description - The doctrine of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Gospel (at least according to the early Church Fathers). The image of God in humanity was damaged in the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Jesus had to be more than a "sinless sacrifice." Only God can heal the image of God, so Jesus had to be fully God the way the Father and Holy Spirit are God. He also had to be fully human because all of our humanness has been touched by sin. As Gregory of Nazianzen said in the fourth century, "What he has not assumed he has not healed." A penalty had to be paid for sin, but the beginning of our chance for freedom from sin and offer of adoption came because of God the Son became man. Jesus is the "Second Adam" as Paul describes in Romans 5. That means we can fall under a new family line free from the failures in our past. We have been offered adoption as princesses and princes of the Kingdom.
