Activity: Refining Your Research Problem

In this Shared Activity, you will begin searching the literature for articles that can help you clarify your research topic and share ideas for how to search for, and make sense of, the research literature most effectively. You and your colleagues will assist each other with broadening and deepening your review of the literature. Together, you will critically analyze sources and recommend search strategies you can use as you craft your Management Project Proposal literature reviews.

In working on this Shared Activity, you will refine and select a final research topic and submit it for approval by your Faculty Member. Approval by your Faculty Member will confirm that your topic is relevant, meaningful and feasible, and that you can continue working on developing this topic. Non-approval by your Faculty Member will signal that you will have to continue refining the topic - you should return to the criteria for selecting the right topic above - using the feedback provided by your Faculty Member on how to refine your topic.

To prepare for this Shared Activity:

You are required to make an initial post to the Shared Activity by Day 7.
- Read the Unit 2 assigned readings. If necessary, reread the Unit 1 readings.
- Search the University of Roehampton Online Library for at least six (6) research articles that relate to your chosen research topic.

Write a 500-word post: Assignment 1
- State your research topic, and summarize which practical issue your research will solve.
- Be specific about your identified research topic because you are submitting it for approval.
- Include suggestions on how you will go about selecting or refining your topic and how to search the research literature most effectively.
- Also propose methodologies that could be used to answer the research questions posed by you and your colleagues.

Two Follow-on Posts:Assignment 2
You are required to make two follow-on posts by Day 14.
Respond to at least two colleagues' posts with ideas on:
- How they can address the questions they have posted and make recommendations for refining their research topics
- How to further improve their literature searches and how to make sense of, and incorporate, literature they have found
- How research questions posed fit with ideas for methodologies that could be used most effectively
- How you need to refine or expand your literature review, search strategies you have found useful and/or questions you have encountered

You should aim to engage with and extend the academic discussion in a sensitive and professional way. Aim for at least two (2) posts of minimum 250 words from the list of threads attached.

If researchers ask opened questions, this allows researchers to collect a good idea of the variety of ideas and express feelings. However, the researchers may find that they are quite difficult to quantify the results they have collected. They will need to read and review all comments, mere and classify them into different categories, to make a general statement. I do not have much concern about analyzing data for closed questions. However, analyzing data for the opened question is more difficult, can you please share with us if there is any hint we can do it easier?

Kindly pass on to expert to reply the questions below in 2 or 3 sentences. Thanks for your sharing, Tayo. Toyota Motor Corporation is one of the successful company, I am interested in this because I learn a lot from them when I studied lean management, they are the model company in this area. After reading your article, I would like to know more about questionnaire design. The quality of the results depends on the questionnaire we designed, it is always important to make the questions clear and easy to read. You mentioned that the questions can be opened or closed. For the closed question, it helps researchers to capture the fixed facts, such as “yes” or “no”, numbers and date. Analyzing data become easier because there is a limited selection of possible answers to choose. However, it would limit the chance that the interviewees to think deeply or express their real feelings and value.
