Assignment: Communication strategies need to be individualized and responsive to the protégé in the mentor-learner relationship. Two factors to consider include that the adult learner is (a) an individual who is a cultural being with a complex identity and a lifetime of experiences and (b) working in a specific early childhood educational program context with its own patterns of communication. Being effective in the mentoring process requires an intense interest in learning to understand another's perspective and how that is similar or very different from your own.
