Case Study: This assignment will allow you to practice paraphrasing information; if you are unsure how to rewrite from source material, please visit the Writing Center or check for resources offered by your professor in the classroom. Make sure you follow APA style requirements as you prepare your assignment.

Before writing, familiarize yourself with the 8 golden rules listed in section 3.3.4 of the textbook. You may also use other sources as well. Your presentation will be based on the rules and how they should be applied to developing a good software interface. You will show how each of the 8 golden rules is applied within the Microsoft Word® interface.

Question:

  • Create a PowerPoint presentation that you will present to a group of new interface design students.
  • Your first slide is the cover slide. Be sure to include your name, the course, the date, and an appropriate title.
  • In the next one to two slides, explain to your audience the purpose of the presentation and what you will cover in the next several slides. Explain why the use of heuristics is important to good interface design.
  • Next explain each of the eight heuristics covered in the textbook. You should have a slide for each one of the heuristics.
  • For each of the heuristics:
  • Write the heuristic name as the slide title.
  • Summarize or paraphrase what that heuristic means. Use source material and in-text citations in the notes section of the slide, but do not quote or copy from your sources.
  • Explain how this heuristic contributes to good interface design and a positive user experience. What do experts in the field think about this heuristic? Consider using a signal phrase to lead into a quote by an expert. Again, be sure to properly use an in-text citation in the notes section of the slide.
  • Apply the heuristic to Microsoft Word, explaining if and/or how it meets expectations. If not, surmise why the developers did not consider the heuristic. How could the interface have been better if the developer had applied the heuristic?
