Use of force
As you can imagine this is hot current topic in our society.
As a way to start thinking about the subject of officer use of force, read the two attached studies and the article. This is good food for thought, remember these professions and academics don't have all the answers, but good to hear different perspectives.
One study suggests this theory of a "deadly mix" that occurs with the officer, suspect and circumstances that leads to the use of force.
The other study by Dr. Tuncay Durna suggest that police use of force is determined by "What the suspect does vs. Who the suspect is."
The deadly mix study is an easy read. However, Dr. Durna's paper is much more detailed and part of the International Police Executive Symposium.
The article suggest that police need to rethink how they use force.
