Alcohol Reaction Questions1.) Suggest a chemical test that would allow you to distinguish between tert-butyl alcohol and 1 butanol, both of which give a positive ceric nitrate test?
2.) Why are axial and equatorial hydroxyl isomers for 4 tert butylcyclohexanone, but not for cyclohexanol itself? ( I was thinking steric factors?)
3.)I have to balance this:
O OH= -C-C-C-C-C-C + NaBH4 ---> C-C-C-C-C-C
so basically its a 6 carbon chain, and on the 4th carbon there is a double bond on the "oxygen" plus NaBH4 yields another 6 carbon chain with a OH on the fourth carbon.
4.) 2-Pentanol, the product, has a asymmetric carbon as a result of the reduction. A solution of the product shows no optical rotation. Explain this observation in full showing the mechanism of the reaction
What is the theoretical yield of bismuth when 393 g of Bi2O3 reacts with excess carbon as shown below? Bi2O3 + C(s) => Bi(s) + CO(g) (not balanced)
2.00 L of H2 at a pressure of 398 torr and 1.00 L of N2 at an unknown pressure. If the total pressure in the flasks is 331 torr after the stopcock is opened,
Household vinegar is aqueous 5.00% acetic and CHC2H3O2 SOLUTION(by mass), if the density is 1,01g/ml calculate the mole fraction, molarity and molality.
Calculate the molarity of an NH3 solution made up of 37.5 g of NH3 in 70.0 g of water. The density of the solution is 0.982 g/mL
When M2S3(s) is heated in air, it is converted to MO2(s). A 4.500-g sample of M2S3(s) shows a decrease in mass of 0.209 g when it is heated in air. What is the average atomic mass of M.
2000°C the equilibrium constant for the reaction is Kc = 2.4 103. 2 NO(g) N2(g) + O2(g) If the initial concentration of NO is 0.150 M, what are the equilibrium concentrations of NO, N2, and O2.
25.0 cm3 of a saturated solution of Ca(OH)2 required 21.0 cm3 of 0.0500 mol dm-3 HCl for complete neutralisation. Calculate the [OH-(aq)] and the [Ca2+(aq)] in the saturated solution.
which hydroxide precipitates first as NaOh is slowly added to the solution? b) what is the molar concentration of the first cation precipitated when the other cation just starts to precipitate out of solution?
A solution is prepared by mixing 79.0 mL of 5.00 M HCl and 34.0 mL of 8.00 M HNO3. Water is then added until the final volume is 1.00 L. Calculate [H+ ], [OH - ], and the pH for this solution.
If a reaction mixture contains only N2O and NO2 at partial pressures of 1.0 atm each, the reaction will be spontaneous until some NO forms in the mixture.
Consider a glass of 254 mL of water at 25°C. Calculate the mass of ice at -15°C that must be added to cool the water to 10°C after thermal equilibrium is achieved.
A 122 piece of metal is heated to 285 and dropped into 84.0 of water at 26. If the final temperature of the water and metal is 58.3, what is the specific heat of the metal.
