The firm transferred Cindy four years ago to a different office in a different region of the same country. Cindy underestimated the culture shock that would be involved with this move. She is very unhappy. At the time of the transfer it was agreed that she would stay for a minimum of three years. There is no longer any agreement or commitment between the parties regarding long-term continuation of employment.
Although she had an offer from a different firm within a year of this assignment, she declined in order to honor her word. She has been searching diligently but unsuccessfully for another position anywhere for the past 18 months. The local economy is severely depressed. She sees no employment options where she is.
She has had her house on the market for two years. She has tried unsuccessfully to sell her car and several valuable possessions in an attempt to generate cash with which to move. Today she agreed to a contract to sell her house along with all of its contents for a price that will generate $20,000 in cash but that represents a $40,000 loss. She is moving back home where she is determined to find a job and start over.
Questions:
