Consider drilling a tunnel among any two points on the Earth’s surface (this tunnel does not necessarily pass during the center of the Earth). Assuming that the tunnel is frictionless and that the Earth has uniform density:

1. Prove that a subway car placed in the tunnel will execute simple harmonic motion.
