Several million adults aged 50 and older (4.7%) have used an illicit drug within the past year. Nonmedical use of prescription drugs is the most common form of illicit drug abuse among people 65 and older with an estimated prevalence that is at least double the percentage of those who abuse marijuana, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
