Introductory Psychology Assignment - The Five Senses Discussion

Submit a journal entry that describes the five senses. Then discuss, in one paragraph or more, if you had to choose to lose the use of either hearing, sight, or smell, which would you choose? Provide detailed examples to support your choice.

The five senses of the human body are sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. They are perceived by using our sensory organs, like eyes for seeing, ears for hearing, nose for smelling, tongue for taste, nose for smell and skin for touch. The senses are used to help humans perceive the world around us and make decisions. Our sensory organs collect data and send it to our brain to process the sensory information and stored memories. The skin is the largest sensory organ on the body.

If I had to loseone of my five senses it would be smell, because I feel it would have the least impact to my life compared to losing sight, hearing, and touch. Not being able to see can cause a lot more hardship the smell. I would want to still be able to see, hear and touch the people I love and to better interact with the world around me. For me, that's important, because my ways of interacting rely on the availability of that sensory input. I don't presently have the skills to go through school, socializing, dating, parenting without hearing or sight, and it would be a significant challenge to acquire a normal life.
