Hypothetical Scenario Guide:

Pretend you are researcher interested in assessing in studying the texting habits of college students. You ask a random sample of 60 students to tell you how many texts per day they send.

1. Make up a data set , make a histogram for the raw scores, convert the scores into Z scores using SPSS, make a histogram of the Z scores according to the instructions below. Use the Hypothetical Scenario as your guideline. *The data a set numbers are not provided*.  YOU need to make it up. Use what has been given to answer.

Data Set Instructions:

Make up a data set that contains 60 numbers representing the number of texts per day each student reports sending

SPSS Analyses Instructions:

1. Find the mean and standard deviation for the raw scores
2. Make a histogram of the raw scores
3. Transform the raw scores into Z scores following the instructions on p. 106 in your textbook
4. Find the mean and standard deviation for the Z scores
5. Make a histogram of the Z scores

PT 2 

Hypothetical Scenario:

Pretend you are researcher interested in assessing in studying the texting habits of college students. You ask a random sample of 60 students to tell you how many texts per day they send.

Make an in depth summary of your SPSS analyses from the perspective of being the researcher yourself and include the following:

• Explanation of what the study was about - as if you are the researcher conducting the study in the hypothetical scenario above, but you must use your own words to explain things.
• Explanation of what the numbers in the data set represent
• Report of the mean and standard deviation for the raw scores
• Report of the mean and standard deviation for the Z scores
• Description of any notable characteristics of the data that you can see by looking at the histogram for the raw scores and the histogram for the Z scores. In particular, you should describe the shape of the distributions, any skewness or asymmetry, any outliers, or other unusual data. Are the distributions unimodal, bimodal, multimodal, or is there no mode?
