About a half a dozen states have banned or have legislation attempting to ban critical race theory in K- 12 schools. The argument is somewhat irrelevant because CRT is not currently taught in K-12. People are conflating CRT with the movement to teach a complete view of history in the classroom. Although, CRT is higher level concept, it may be appropriate for upper high school course. Read up on critical race theory and answer the following questions.

1. What is critical race theory?

2. If you wanted to study the impact of teaching critical race theory, would you use an experimental method, ethnographic research, the survey method, secondary analysis, or some combination of these approaches? Explain your choice/s?

3. Do you believe teaching critical race theory in school would lead to hostility or improve race relations? Why?

4. Using your understanding of socialization, do you think teaching critical race theory in high school can change the way that people see race?

5. Do you think the concept of Cooley's looking glass self will prove relevant to student learning this curriculum? Explain?

6. Using the concept on "resistance to social change "why do you think so many states are opposed to the curriculum?

7. Describe how on conflict theorist and functionalist might debates this issue?

8. The concept of differential justice is discussed in the chapter of deviance, Do you think that teaching critical race theory would increase or decrease the occurrence of differential justice? Why?
