A number of different types of flow chambers have been designed to study adhesion between cells in vitro. One important design feature is the ability to have a range of shear stresses. This ability allows a wide range of data to be collected in a single experiment,reducing experimental variability. One such device is a radial-flow channel, shown in Figure 2.37. In this device, fluid flows from a source in a radial direction and the volumetric flow rate at any radial position r is Q. The flow itself is driven by an unspecified pressure gradient. Solve for the velocity profile. Use your solution and the constant-flow-rate condition to show that the wall shear stress at y=-h/2 is Tauw=(3*µ*Q)/(pi*r*h2).
