The PPACA and traditional Medicare advocate the use of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) is a payment model utilized by Medicare programs, commercial insurance, and the PPACA (Merrill et al., 2015). The ACO care model has greatly changed the function and structure of the modern healthcare industry. As the number of patients increases, more doctors need to be hired to meet the demand while ensuring quality care (Ginter et al., 2018). This payment model ensures that healthcare providers and hospitals will make more money if they provide patients with quality care. Under the PPACA laws, an ACO has to agree to manage all health care needs of at least 5,000 Medicare beneficiaries for a minimum of three years (Gold, 2011).
