Vision, Mission, and Core Values Analysis
Prepare a minimum of a 1700 word paper, including abstract, introduction, body and conclusion that evaluates the vision, mission, and core values of the organization that you work for or another organization that is not included in the reading for this week(the list of companies that are included are listed on bottom of page 2). Note that the next paper will concern the same organization, so be sure to make a good selection. Be sure to not address the execution of strategy in this paper, as that is the focus of the next paper. Evaluate the vision as follows:
1. Describe, in your own words, the vision, mission, and core value for the organization. You may quote them as well, with proper citation, but the quotations should not comprise more than 20% of the description provided. If one of these elements is not present, be sure to acknowledge it not being present in this section.
2. Evaluate the strengths and areas for improvement of the vision, mission, and core values. Use the criteria in Chapter 2 of Strategy: Core Concepts and Analytical Approaches as the guide for your evaluation of these three elements with Table 2.2 as the guide for evaluation of the presentation of the vision (Table 2.2 is at the end of the document). In addition to course materials, be sure to support your evaluation of these elements at least two cited scholarly journal articles. If one of these elements is not present, then assess the value that the inclusion of the element will bring to the organization.
3. Make recommendations for improvement:
a. Make recommendations for improvement to the vision statement with the goal of making it an effective strategic vision, or for the creation of a strategic vision in the event that a vision statement does not exist, with the support of at least one cited scholarly journal article in addition to relevant course materialfor such recommendations. In the event that your findings do not reveal improvements, detail your rationale for not making any recommendations and substantiate your argument with at least one cited scholarly journal article in addition to relevant course material.
b. Make recommendations for improvement to the mission statement with the goal of making it an exemplary mission statement, or for the creation of a mission statement in the event that one does not exist, with the support of at least one cited scholarly journal article in addition to relevant course material for such recommendations. In the event that your findings do not reveal improvements, detail your rationale for not making any recommendations and substantiate your argument with at least one cited scholarly journal article in addition to relevant course material.
c. Make recommendations for improvement to the set of core values with the goal of making them an exemplary guide for the conduct of organizational activities and achievement of the organization's strategic vision and mission, or for the creation of a set of core values in the event that one does not exist, with the support of at least one cited scholarly journal article in addition to relevant course material for such recommendations. In the event that your findings do not reveal improvements, detail your rationale for not making any recommendations and substantiate your argument with at least one cited scholarly journal article in addition to relevant course material.
