K Consulting was invited in to help a maintenance company with some problems that arose over the last year. Management could see that there were communication, culture, and reporting problems but did not know where to start the improvement process. Thus, K Consulting came in to help them ascertain the root of the problems and how to solve them before productivity and customer satisfaction was affected. The consulting team came in and did research through interviews and surveys to gather as much insight as possible. After collecting the relevant information, the team found key issues in the reporting structure which led to a breakdown in culture and communication. This in turn had a negative effect on motivation, productivity, and morale.
The organization identified in using a matrix organization structure. With this organization structure in place the common issues in regards to communication has been arising and also confusion for employees on who to report to (Bright, 2019). These short comings can lead to delays and productivity issues in addition to creating some disgruntled workers.
Through collaborative work and improving the reporting structure this was decided to be the first step in process improvement. This was identified as the key issue and root of the reported problems. Communicating this process change will be essential to make this change effective. Having the right tools to communicate effectively will be important as well this will be done through facilitating leadership trainings for all involved parties. Namely this will consist of the managers, coordinators, and peer leaders. By providing and encouraging these training workshops it will reiterate the mindset of employee involvement and supporting employee growth. Overall, this will improve trust and motivation hopefully bringing about cultural improvement back to the originally established clan mentality in the workplace.
