Knowing that planning is an ongoing process, state how you would go about converting the paper-based record to an EHR within your facility.  This conversion is scheduled for implementation at the local hospital within 3 years. The hospital is in the initial planning stages.

  • How would you guarantee that users are ready and prepared for changes?
  • Remember, change is very difficult for some individuals so not everyone will be excited about the implementation.
  • How should management prepare for this change?
  • What issues need to be addressed?
  • What can you do to help prepare personnel (medical staff and employees) for new technology?
  • How will the facility work in relationship to the other departments? 
  • What implementation plans will you consider to avoid duplicate services?

Analyze how the proposed EHR processes change from the current manual process. Include potential problem areas and solutions. This process would include the time period beginning with deciding to transfer from paper to electronic health records through the Go Live date, including what options for Going Live might be considered. You have the technology available, but you need to get administrative, nursing, and physician support. How would you go about this?

  • identification of potential solutions,
  • selection of a course of action,
  • implementation, evaluation, and feedback.
