Scenario

Knowledge and Information Management is a useful label when talking about the sharing of knowledge and information within an organisation. In practice, knowledge management is about connecting people to people, to information, and to tools through technology and process. It is about getting the right information to the right person at the right time. People carry knowledge around with them. They share, apply, and develop this knowledge during their daily activities. The challenge for all organisations is to capture and transfer this knowledge to prevent its loss this knowledge during their daily activities. Task

The task is to write a coherent essay addressing each of the following questions. Please note that the paper cannot simply be a series of answers to these questions. You must address the topics within the framework of an essay with an abstract, introduction, body, conclusion, and references in Harvard format.

1. Abstract. In this section, summarise the main findings of your paper. The abstract should be around 150-200 words. (10 marks)

2. Introduction. In this section, identify the differences between information and knowledge. Critically distinguish between the two types of knowledge: Implicit and explicit. (1,200 words)

3. Literature Review. In this section, (a) choose a company you are familiar with or choose the company you work for - introduce the company in a few paragraphs by giving information on its approaches to knowledge management (b) evaluate if the company is a knowledge-intensive firm or a non-knowledge intensive firm. Justify your explanation with references to academic source material. (1,600 words) (40 marks)

4. Conclusion/Recommendations: In this section, critically summarise your findings, while making reference to the key theories of information and knowledge management. (1,000 words)
