The interrelationship between organisations and the environment (both internal and external) is a key consideration for Human Resource Management.

1. You are required to source a recent news article that highlights the strategic importance of human resource planning in dealing with a key external/internalissue and/or trend for an organisation of your choice.

2. You will need to evaluate the impact of the issue and/or trend on the organisation of your choice and make one Human Resource related recommendation on how the organisation can deal with the issue/trend over the next 2-4 years.

3. You must provide ananalysis of how the human resource response hasdeveloped over time.

4. You mustjustify why you are making the current recommendation as compared to a historical human resource approach.

5. As part of this report you must clearly show how the organisation will measure the success or failure of your recommendation.

Write a (maximum of 1500 words) report to present to the board/CEO/owner of the organisation that provides onehuman resource related solution/recommendation that will assist the organisation in dealing with the identified external/ internal issue/trend for the next 2-4 years.

 

Provide an introduction that explains the purpose of your report and outlines your chosen organisation and the topical issue/trend. (NB: This is a report for the owner/CEO/Director of your chosen organisation so must be written in a professional business manner as if addressing these people).

1. What is your report trying to achieve?
2. What is the purpose and/or vision of your chosen organisation?
3. What do they produce/service?
4. What is the organisation's strategy? - do they have a strategy?
5. What type of organisation is it? Local, international, not for profit?
6. What is the issue/trend identified in the article?
7. How will the issue/trend affect the organisation?
8. Is it a positive impact or a negative impact?

2 External/ internal issue/trend impact

Provide an in-depth analysis on the issue/trend and its potential impactonyour chosen organisation. Explain how human resources planning can assist with the development of a solution.

Key focus questions to assist include:
1. Is the issue a short or long term problem?
2. Is the issue/trend internal or external to the organisation?
3. What HR planning will need to take place to deal with the issue?
4. What resources will/will not be needed to deal with the issue?
5. What academic research supports your position?
6. Why is the issue relevant to this organisation specifically?
7. What HR solutions will be needed to deal with the issue?

 

3 Recommendation
Summarise your main findings and identify your HR recommendation. Ensure you access relevant HR literature to support your recommendation.

Key focus questions to assist include:
1. What recommendation would you make to deal with the issue?
2. Why are you making this specific recommendation?
3. How will it resolve the issue?
4. When will it resolve the issue?
5. Is it a permanent solution or work in progress that will need monitoring and adaptation?

4 Measurement

Explain how your chosen organisation will measure the success or failure of your recommendation.

Key focus questions to assist include:
1. Is it a quantitative or qualitative measure?
2. Who will undertake the measurement?
3. When will the measurement be taken?
4. What does success look like?
5. What does failure look like?
6. Is the chosen measurement to be used only once or ongoing over time?
7. In what format will the results be provided?

5 HR Development comparison

Analyse how the human resource function/response has developed and changed over time and justify why you are making the current recommendation as compared to an alternative historical approach.

Key focus questions to assist include:
1. What was HR like 30 years ago
2. How has HR changed in the last 10 years?
3. What HR activities could assist this organisation now that were not recommended in the past?
4. Does this organisation need a dedicated HR department or will the solution be outsourced?
