Helping the needy is not a strange value for the Filipinos. Helping the other/s has been proven in many ways. The Filipino people expressed their concern for "neighbors" in the way of pakikipagkapwa. To be a Good Samaritan in the Filipino context is a way of pakikipagkapwa (neighborliness) showing our concern and love for kapwa (other/s), especially the neighbors who are nasa laylayan (at the margin) (Jacoba, 2022). This is possible since Jesus showed to the lawyer in the parable the importance of going beyond boundaries. All over the world, the importance of service with compassion and integrity and loving one's neighbor is recognized (Golden Rule). Pakikipagkapwa for Filipino is a way of a meaningful fellowship with the kapawa. Pakikipagkapwa is not limited to kapwa tao. The kapwa is generally a concept that hinges both "the other" and "shared identity," both an outsider and insider. Encountering our kapwa calls us to recognize their presence before us. Kapwa can be extended to the notion of our relationship with nature (both physical and the unseen spirits), and it is an inclusivist view. Within this, we can have the Filipino context on the lawyer's question in the parable "who is my neighbor (Jacoba, 2022)."
