Question

The Last Mountain shares the story of a West Virginia community that stands up to Massey Coal to save their homes, their health, their children, and the mountain they love. At the end of the movie, Maria Gunnoe, a member of the Coal River Valley community, comments at the end of the documentary that all of us have to decide where we stand on coal. In the film, two sides to the issue of coal, the coal industry, and the effect of mountain top removal are brought up by native West Virginians- some who live in the community below Coal River Mountain and some who work for the coal industry putting food on their tables. Using specific examples from the film, first share with me the two different stances about mountain top removal on Coal River Mountain. Then I want you to tell me your impressions of the movie, what you think should be done on the ridges of Coal River Mountain, and where you stand on coal Support your stance with statistics/evidence from movie which ever way you fall in your opinion.
