Analyze this case with all these details below: You will prepare a case study to tell a story of employment discrimination from a workplace or other organization perspective (it can be real or fictional, but should not identify any people or disclose any sensitive information from an employer). The story should describe a situation that presents issues that are covered in this class.
For example, it can be a case study about how the employer uses a written test to decide who is eligible for promotions. You should provide enough specific information that the reader has sufficient data to determine if the test is used violates legal principles or not. You should close the fact part of the final assignment by raising some issues like: Is the current test discriminatory? Does it adversely impact a protected group? What can management do to remedy the situation and still achieve a valid company goal?
As you read this, you make mental notes about what you as a group need to include in your case study facts to facilitate the illustration of some key legal principles:
1- The concept of equity in the workplace;
2- The relevant anti-discrimination statutes, including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, Equal Pay Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1991;
3- How to demonstrate an effective process of responding to a charge or claim from a regulatory agency (e.g., EEOC, Department of Labor, State and local EEO agencies, etc.) and
4- How to compare and contrast discrimination claims based on race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age and disability.
Your case can also be a specific policy, a promotion decision, or any other impacting employment. After the facts are presented, the legal issues raised in the fact situation should be stated, in the form of one or more questions.
