Poster - THE EFFECT OF KINESIO TAPE ON THE ECCENTRIC FORCE PRODUCTION OF THE QUADRICEPS FEMORIS IN HEALTHY, NON-INJURED INDIVIDUALS
Assessment - Poster Presentation
Learning outcome 1: Demonstrate the following knowledge and understanding: Explain a critical understanding of the research process, the theories and concepts underpinning the area of study
Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate the following skills and abilities: Synthesise, present and defend an original, independent piece of research.
You will be required to produce a poster which will provide a coherent summary of your applied research project at whatever stage the research is (formulation, data collection, analysis). You will be required to present the poster in a Sports Rehabilitation and Clinical Exercise Therapy conference where you will explain and defend your thesis, analysis and show your understanding of your work to this point. You may also be asked to present the poster in the Sports Science and Physical Activity conference in May 2022 (if COVID restrictions permit).
The poster will present your authentic study findings with a clear scientific approach.
The defence will facilitate your justification of your research question (with reference to peer-reviewed articles) and allow you to show your understanding of the research process through the defence of your choice of methods and data analysis.
If COVID presents a limitation, this may be switched to an online platform poster defence (via zoom or teams).
The poster must be produced in Microsoft Office PowerPoint, the size when printed must be A1 in size (841mm x 594 mm), and must be portrait orientation. Whilst there is not a word count limit, there are recommendations for sections and layout, which will benefit the communication, style and effectiveness of the poster.
In order to pass the assessment you will need to:
Produce a scientific poster presentation in which you will present your research findings and orally defend your methods, results, conclusions and the process of conducting research.
Critically reflect on the process of conducting research and present authentic study findings on a poster using a report format that conforms to presentation guidelines and provide a rationale to the study.
There are four areas to the poster presentation to consider:
1. Quality of Presentation
Ensure your poster is divided in to relevant sections (introduction, methods, results, key points, conclusions, etc.) and has visual impact, which relate and will be dependent on the stage you are at.
It is important that the poster is clear and has visual impact (images, diagrams).
Communicate your understandings succinctly.
2. Scholarship
Reflect on the data collection process, planning, critically appraise the methods.
Demonstrate your ability to recognise relevant data and to analyse its significance The content of your poster should adhere to the expected standards of a poster being presented at a research conference (as outlined on BREO). Use appropriate anatomical and scientific terminology and units. Please stick to primary sources of information.
3. Response to Questions
This assessment aims to replicate how you would give a poster presentation at a professional conference, you should present yourself appropriately: dressed as you would be for any professional commitment, adopting the appropriate professional manner and talking in a style that befits a formal, professional event.
Being able to answer questions on all of your study aspects, background information. This may be done through an online medium rather than face to face (depending on COVID restrictions.
4. Reflective Practice
Since this is a presentation of work that you will write up in full, this gives the opportunity for you to think about the challenges and limitations of your work. By appropriately recognising and discussing them in your presentation (defence), you can identify what you could differently in future, the methodological constraints of your study and how you would adjust or change anything in the future.
