Steam flows through a horizontal adiabatic throttle which controls the flow to 25.0 ft3/s and then through an adiabatic device. The inlet is at 20 psi, 250°F. At the outlet of the throttle the pressure is 18 psi. The gas leaves the device at 60 psi, 500°F through a 1.0 in diameter tube. This device is a turbine or a compressor.

a. Find the mass flow rate of the steam, lbm/s.

b. Compute the power of the device (in HP) if kinetic energies may be neglected.

c. This device is a _______?(why?)

1 HP = 2545 Btu/hr = 0.7457 kW.
