Statistical Critical Thinking and Application Skills
a) Discuss the research paper.
b) Design and perform an experiment to answer the questions:
i. Will customers rate Pepsi or Coca-Cola differently in taste?
ii. Is customer’s preference consistent with their rating?
iii. Can customer recognizethe brand by taste?( this is the one that I have to do)
Example) Will customers rate theirpreferred drink higher than 6. (For example, if you prefer Pepsi, and you rate B is Pepsi, will the rating be greater than 6?)
c) Collect data
d) You will be responsible for one of the three questions. Following the format of the paper, each one work on the method and result section, about 1 page.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Customer ID ___17____
1) I prefer ___Pepsi___(Pepsi or Coca-Cola), by ___9_____(i.e., rating of Pepsi – Coke, which will range from -10 to +10 )
2) A is _coke_______(Pepsi or Coca-Cola), and I rate it as _____2______(1 – 10 best)
B is ____pepsi____(Pepsi or Coca-Cola), and I rate it as _______9____(1 – 10 best)
Use this info-
• The bottles are not covered so you might recognize by their shapes.
• The questionnaire does not ask you for which one (A or B) do you recognize as Pepsi (or Coke).
• Too many categorical variables are used (for example, which one do you prefer, Pepsi or Coke) rather than continuous variable (for example, how much higher do you rate Pepsi over Coke before the experiment). I would like you to use one of the T test, but T test can only be used on continuous variables. (By the way, chapter 19 - 22 talk about methods for categorical variable, so you can handle them later).
Before the experiment, prefer pepsi over coke by (from -10 to 10)
