General Instructions
The research report continues the registered report, i.e, adding to the existing document. Change all wording in the registered report to past tense, and make revisions to the registered report based on feedback from the TA/IA. You can earn back up to 5 points lost by revising the registered report sections of the research report. The final submission should include the following sections:
- Title page
- Abstract (1 paragraph on a separate page)
- Introduction
- Method
- Results
- Discussion
- References
Title Page
- The running head is a shortened version of your title, in all caps, in the header. It should be no more than 50 characters including spaces and punctuation.
- Insert the page number in the top right, also in the header.
- Two double spaces down from the header, type your full title, centered, in bold.
- Another two doubles spaced down, type your name (first name, middle initial if you have one, and last name).
- Below that, type your affiliation/organization.
Abstract
- On the first page after the title page, include the heading 'Abstract' in bold, centered at the top of the page.
- Write a summary of your entire paper in one paragraph, with no indentation. It should be at least four sentences and include:
- What you did, i.e., you replicated a study
- How you did it, i.e., 1-3 sentences of your method
- What you found, i.e., results without statistical notation
- A sentence about the overall implication or general conclusion about the results
- Abstracts do not include citations (though citing the study you replicated is an exception). Also, you may wish to read a few APA research report abstracts to give you an idea of how these are worded.
Introduction
On a new page, include the full title of your paper again, centered at the top, in bold. Below, paste your introduction, but don't include the subheading 'Introduction'. Then paste your Method, Results, and Discussion-and these do not need to be on new pages. Paste them immediately after the Introduction. These headings should be centered, in bold.
Method
Include the heading 'Method' in bold, centered, and the subheadings 'Participants' and 'Procedure' in bold, left-aligned from the registered report. Update the participants number, age (mean and standard deviation), gender, and ethnicity numbers.
Results
- Include the heading 'Results' in bold, centered and report the results for normality, homogeneity, two main effects, interaction, and effect sizes where relevant.
- Include a table in APA format of descriptive statistics (i.e., means and standard deviations) of the four groups.
- The table should be preceded with 'Table 1' in bold, left-aligned, and then with an italicized title below, left-aligned.
- You must present SPSS output to me or a TA to earn points for the results section!
Discussion
- Repeat the results but do not include statistical notation.
- State whether predictions were confirmed.
- Note if results were consistent or inconsistent with prior studies with citation(s), and discuss why.
- Described the limitation(s) of the study and the suggestion(s) for future research.
- Conclude with a paragraph about the implication or general conclusion of the study. This paragraph states why the topic is important, or why it is of interest for theoretical or applied purposes. Read a few APA research reports to a sense of such paragraphs.
- Include at least two new peer-reviewed sources. Reuse sources from the introduction when relevant, but two new sources are needed.
