You conduct an experiment on a drug which is thought to enhance memory performance. The memory performance is judged using the standardized rat memory performance score (SRMP), for which a population of rats achieves on average 10.0 points, according to text books. In 42 rats, you administer the drug and record their scores on the SRMP scale. Afterwards, you want to know whether the drug changes memory performance.

a. State the null hypothesis for your experiment.
b. State the alternative hypothesis for your experiment.
c. Is it appropriate to use the t-test in this situation?
d. Imagine the data follow all assumptions of the t-test. You find that the mean SRMP in your sample of 42 rats is 12.4 points, the standard deviation 5 points. This means that the p-value is 0.002. What is the effect size?
e. Write a concise summary statement containing all necessary information.
f. As an alternative, imagine you find that the t-test results in P = 0.0504. What do you conclude from this? Write a concise summary statement.
