The principle quantum number defines the shell (which is roughly, but not quite exactly, the row, or period, of the periodic table). Demonstrate the difference between the rows of the periodic table and the shells defined by the principle quantum number by calculating the number of electrons in the n = 1, n = 2, and n = 3 shells and comparing those with the number of electrons in the noble gases Helium, Neon, and Argon.
