Solid copper (II) hydroxide from copper nitrate. First, add 30 mL of 3.0M sodium hydroxide to the solution in the Erlenmeyer Flask.Take a stirring rod and place the end about 1 cm into the solution; then tough the end to a 2 cm piece of red litmus paper. If the area of the paper where water is transferred from the rod to the paper turns blue, indicating excess hydroxide ions are present, the proceed with the next step. If not, add another 1 mL of sodium hydroxide solution and test again; repeat until the litmus paper turns blue.
In step two of Experiment 4, you add sodium hydroxide to copper(II) nitrate and use a stirring rod to test if the solution is basic. How do you establish whether the solution is basic? (Explain what else is needed, what observations are made, and what should be observed if the solution is basic).
Given the reaction 2C2H2(g) + 5O2(g) ->4CO2(g) + 2H2O(g) , how much oxygen gas is needed for the complete combustion of 167 g of acetylene (C2H2)? Answer in units of g
HbS has normal shape under normal conditions, but under conditions of low [O2] the hemoglobin forms fibrous aggregations, giving the entire red blood cell a sickle shape. (See image of eight HbS molecules at right.)
Calculate the expected pH of the buffer after the addition of 1.0 mL of 1 M HCl. Remember that you are using 50 ml of the buffer so be sure to calculate the number of moles of acetic acid
Calculate the concentrations of all species in a 1.62 M Na2SO3 (sodium sulfite) solution. The ionization constants for sulfurous acid are Ka1=1.4x10^-2 and Ka2=6.3x10^-8.
