Tremendous differences exist in national experiences with democracy. In some countries democratic rule has been long established, stable, and relatively high in quality; in others, it has been periodically established but not sustained, or only partially established; in still others, democracy has never taken hold at all. Political scientists have developed different explanations for these differences in democratic outcomes. Which approach do you find most useful for explaining the democratic experience in your country or countries of choice, and which approach is the least convincing? Provide evidence from your case(s) to support and explain your answer.
