In this section you will use statistics to write about one of the 17 sustainable development goals set by the United Nations (UN). (uploaded file 3) and select a goal of interest to you. Then, using extensive statistical support, explain your chosen sustainable development goal, the problem(s) it solves, and its importance globally using statistics about things such as who or what it affects, how it affects them, changes over time, and more. Nearly every sentence should include statistics or be direct, specific, and knowledgeable discussion of statistics that appear in the previous sentence. Show your understanding of statistics by appropriately applying and discussing them. Though short quotations are fine with proper in-text citation and punctuation, quotations should not dominate. Most of what you state should be in your own words with citations for ideas and limited quotes as needed.Sources - The many statistics you use must come from the UN and one more non-UN source. Additional sources beyond two are allowed, but not necessary.

The first source must be the page(s) from the UN's website on your chosen goal

The second source must be a legitimate non-UN source of quantitative information of the following types: peer-reviewed academic journal article, government report, or report from major non-partisan policy research organizations such .

Cite your sources using either ASA or APA citation style (not manuscript formatting style). To avoid plagiarism, show what info came from where, and to earn credit (to avoid a zero grade), in-text citations throughout the Statistical Explanation section and reference list citations are both required. Quotation marks are always required for quotations. In-text citation is required for both ideas/information as well as quotations from any source.

Word Count for Statistical Explanation (excluding reference list): Put the word count for your Statistical Explanation here. To avoid earning a zero, it must be under the absolute maximum of 400 words. 225-275 words suggested. The reference list is not part of the word count.

Reference List - Put reference list style citations for your sources here under a heading like this in ASA or APA style. Remember to also put in-text citations with each piece of information or quotation you need to cite in the Statistical Explanation.

Research ProposalIn this section, using what you have learned in this course and from writing your Statistical Explanation section, write a brief research proposal by providing the information specified below. The proposal must be for a quantitative survey related to your UN development goal. You will not carry out this research so do not worry about cost or labor required. Focus on showing your understanding of statistical methods for the social sciences.
Independent Variable and Dependent Variable - State your independent variable and dependent variable (must say which is which). At least one of them must be directly related to your chosen your Sustainable Development Goal. Note that this cannot be the same IV and DV you used in Practice 01b.
Research Question (not a question for a survey questionnaire) - State your research question about the relationship between your independent and dependent variables. Also write a sentence or two about how this research would be relevant and important to your chosen goal.
Hypothesis - State your hypothesis. Then, explain the reason that this is your hypothesis in a sentence or two.
Data Collection and Expected Results
Survey implementation - Ideally, how, when, and where would you administer the survey and who would you sample? Think about who would be important to have and not to have in your survey sample based on the topic and how best to reach those people. The sample should only include people whom the questions apply to. State the purpose of these choices and how they are better in terms of reliability and validity.
Survey Questions - Write survey questions for #1-4 below with a justification and expected measure of central tendency or variability for each. One question for each level of measurement is required, and then a fourth question of any level of measurement. The best submissions will use different measures of central tendency and variability for different questions depending on what is appropriate based on the level of measurement and your expectations for the distribution of the data. Give the actual value or figure you would expect for the measure and the reason such as "I expect the standard deviation to be around 12 because..."
Of the four questions, one must be for collecting data on your IV and one must be for collecting data on your DV. Label those questions by adding IV or DV to that question's heading. The two other questions can relate to your chosen development goal or be necessary for control or demographic variables.
Your sample and your questions should align so that all four questions apply to everyone in your sample. Do not use "If..., then..." questions.
These questions must include either multiple choice answers or instructions for respondents to answer with a number using a specific unit (such as hours).
1. Nominal Question - Put the full text of your question here with answer choices or answer instructions.
Justification - Explain why you chose to include this question.
Expected Result with Measure of Central Tendency or Variability - Using at least one measure of central tendency or at least one measure of variability, describe what trend(s) or tendencies you expect in the answers and explain why you expect this.
2. Ordinal Question - Put the full text of your question here with answer choices or answer instructions.
Justification - Explain why you chose to include this question.
Expected Result with Measure of Central Tendency or Variability - Using at least one measure of central tendency or at least one measure of variability, describe what trend(s) or tendencies you expect in the answers and explain why you expect this.
3. Interval-Ratio Question - Put the full text of your question here with answer choices or answer instructions.
Justification - Explain why you chose to include this question.
Expected Result with Measure of Central Tendency or Variability - Using at least one measure of central tendency or at least one measure of variability, describe what trend(s) or tendencies you expect in the answers and explain why you expect this.
4th Question - __(state level of measurement here)__ Level of Measurement: - This fourth question can be any level of measurement you choose. State the level of measurement in bold in the heading. Put the full text of your question here with answer choices or answer instructions.

Justification - Explain why you chose to include this question.

Expected Result with Measure of Central Tendency or Variability - Using at least one measure of central tendency or at least one measure of variability, describe what trend(s) or tendencies you expect in the answers and explain why you expect this.

Limitations and Closing Thoughts - State any challenges and limitations you would expect regarding collecting and analyzing the data generated with this survey and why.

Word Count for Research Proposal: Put your word count only for the Research Proposal here. To avoid earning a zero, it must be under the absolute maximum of 800 words including headings. Far fewer words suggested.

References are not needed for the Research Proposal section, but if you use any you must cite them in-text and here in a reference list.
