The United States provides six major government programs: Medicare, Medicaid, the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), the Department of Defense TRICARE and TRICARE for Life programs (DOD TRICARE), the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) program, and the Indian Health Service (IHS) program. The management of these programs is crucial to success and sustainability, requiring ongoing review and revision of related areas in coverage, cost, spending, and access. Review this week's reading, and Chapter 2 of Leadership by Example: Coordinating Government Roles in Improving Health Care Quality (2003), which can be found here.
