Let's assume that to "make America great again" and support coal-powered electricity generation, the Trump Administration relaxes US emissions standards for SO2 and NOx from fossil fuel use, permitting a rise to a new emission target of 40 MT(S)/y and 40 MT(N)/y within the US. If 1⁄2 of all the emitted S and all of the emitted N oxidize to H2SO4 and HNO3, respectively, and fall as acid precipitation within the contiguous 48 states, what would the 48- state-average pH of precipitation be under these new emission levels?
