Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions, and those of the people around you. People with a high degree of emotional intelligence know what they're feeling, what their emotions mean, and how these emotions can affect other people.
For leaders, having emotional intelligence is essential for success. After all, who is more likely to succeed - a leader who shouts at his team when he's under stress, or a leader who stay in control, and calmly assesses the situation?
State what Emotional Intelligence is, and your score in each of the areas. Keeping in mind how you scored, answer ONE of the following questions. How did your Emotional Intelligence influence your behavior?
Question 1. Has there ever been a time when a situation or person annoyed you at work? How was your response guided by your Emotional Intelligence?
Question 2. List three things that you have learned about yourself in the past year that are relevant to the way you work. How did you learn this information? Describe a time when you used this information.
Question 3. State a time when you were distracted or preoccupied with something. How did you know? What impact did it have on your job performance? What impact did it have on others at work?
