Each entrepreneur-student has recently applied Business Model Canvas (BMC) and/or Business Model Circle (BMCI) into one of your own business ideas from scratch- using BMC and/or BMCI to develop and define your own original business idea in Individual Assignment 2.
Next Step:
The next step is to apply your learning in BUSI641 teams with a real entrepreneur by completing a start-up new venture project for them. Whichever project you do, each project will have three (3) deliverables: Team Assignment 1, Team Assignment 2, and Team Assignment 3. All three assignments are linked and build on each other.
Team Assignment 1:
- A maximum 12 page preliminary report: this represents your initial activities, ideas, information to date, and plan for the new venture project.
- Title Page
- Table of Contents Page
- Introduction Page of the existing business or business idea
- Page summarizing your team's mission and goals for the existing business/new business
- Six pages: Specific explanations of what steps you plan to take, and have taken, and what preliminary information/ideas you generate and preferably a brief schedule/timeline for post- report activities. Some other report sections might include detailing information on:
o review of existing information/issues/opportunities/needs/wants/circumstances etc.
o research processes/methods/findings etc.
o data gathering and interpretation etc.
o ideas/brain storming exploration etc.
o ** preliminary thoughts/ideas/summary comment relating to each of the nine elements of Business Model Canvas as it relates to your project and project goals
o other commentary or sections as your team chooses
o feel free to be creative in your thinking and in your ideas/preliminary report
o Concluding Remarks Page (with Next Steps leading into Team Assignment 2)
o Reference Page (only page to be APA)
Other Information:
(a) Your team will be creating/working with one of three entrepreneur start-up new ventures with CEO Darryl Holloway of Entrust Enhancement as your business lead for each project;
(b) The big picture goal is for each team to assist him with the development/start-up/growth of one the three businesses that will be starting up;
i. Bulk Firewood Business: packaging, sales, etc: primarily business to business sales;
ii. Fish processing and marketing company: franchise or partnership or corporate model?;
iii. Start-up/new venture to work with communities (First Nations) to develop/upgrade website, social media presence, digital footprint, communications, etc.
Where do you start with Team Assignment One?
a. Confirm your team's entrepreneur/new venture with the instructor;
b. Review and understand what is required and/or desired by the entrepreneur;
c. Review and understand what is required/suggested above for Team Assignment One;
d. Remember that you should and are able to contact the entrepreneur approximately once a week with questions you may have for them. Sending an email to them with specific questions is the primary contact method with team meetings possible by Zoom with the entrepreneur (by agreement with them).
Team Assignment 2:
- a 40 - 50 page final report written in full APA style. The final report is detailed extension of the preliminary report in Team Assignment One and will end with a specific set of recommendations and next steps for the business person's project/request; the report will be sent to the course instructor, who in turn will relay the report(s) to the business person for their review and information.
- Due Sunday June
- The layout of the final report is up to the discretion of the teams, and creativity is very welcomed, but some standard sections might include:
o Title Page
o Executive Summary
o Table of Contents Page
o Introduction or Background
o Methodology
o Findings
o Business Model Canvas sections
o Recommendations
o Reference Page
o Appendices
Team Assignment 3:
- a power-point (14 slides maximum; without animations)
- a narrative presentation (12 minute maximum- no extra time permitted)
