Attached is a star chart for tonight. Your task is to locate as many asterisms as you can-your goal is to find and label at least five. As a first step, use the star charts you printed out for this class period and begin by finding the North Star (Polaris). After you have found and labeled 5 asterisms on the attached star chart, answer the following questions:

1. How can you use the Big Dipper to find Polaris?

2. On a map of the United States, north is toward the top of the page and west is to the left. On all of the star charts, north is toward the top of the page and west is to the right. How do you account for this difference?

3. This star chart is for 10 p.m. tonight. By midnight tonight, the positions of the stars will have changed and will look like next month's chart at 10 p.m. Which chart should you use to see what tonight's sky will look like at 2 a.m.?
